Well, I made it to week 14 and so excited! As of today, I am 14 weeks and 5 days and it’s going by so fast! I had a Doc. appointment Mon. Dec. 1st and heard the heartbeat. We decided to get an alpha fetoprotein blood test. Dec. 19th is when I go have the blood test done and it should take a week for the results to come back.

I’m feeling some “twitches” in my tummy and it feels wonderful! It usually happens at night when I’m laying real still. My doppler can pick up the movements, even movements that I’m not able to feel yet.

I have gained 3 lbs, but I thought it would’ve been more judging the way my pants AREN’T fitting! haha!!

Been having some “swamp” mouth here and there lately.

I know that you're not supposed to eat certain types of fish during pregnancy, but what types CAN you eat? More importantly is it ok to eat Shrimp and Crab Meat?

Fish containing accumulated levels of mercury in their fatty tissues such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish.

When a pregnant woman consumes large amounts of mercury, her baby may suffer brain damage resulting in developmental delays (for example, delays in learning to walk or talk).
Fish containing high levels of an industrial pollutant called polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in their fatty tissues such as bluefish and striped bass, and freshwater fish such as salmon, pike, trout, walleye from contaminated lakes and rivers. According to the March of Dimes, consumption of large amounts of PCBs by pregnant women is linked to decreased attention, memory, and IQ in their babies. Check with your local Health Department to determine which fish in your area are safe to eat.

i am 16 weeks pregnant n eating a balanced diet (that's what i think so) i would just like to know if you guys took any special care during your pregnancy—like the ways you sat,or suddenly stood up, sleeping position, jumping around etc…etc..

i have this habit of bending my legs (knees closed to my face)n sitting. will this harm my baby?

Yes I do.

I try not to sit for very long periods of time because it decreases your circulation and can make your legs ache and worsen varicose veins. I also try not to cross my legs for similar reasons.

By 16 weeks, you should be avoiding laying flat on your back for anything length of time, including trying not to sleep on it. When you lie flat on your back, your uterus presses on a major vein and cuts off blood flow to your lower half. Sleeping and laying on your left side is best.

As for standing up - be careful how suddenly you do this. There are two reasons. One is that you may feel a sharp pain at the sides of your uterus if you make sudden movements. This is round ligament pain and it's normal, but it hurts! (You can also get this pretty badly just from sneezing or coughing). The other reason is that standing up too quickly can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and lead you to feel very dizzy.

When you bend to get or lift something, bend at the knees/squat. This will save your back and help strengthen your legs for labor and birth.

The way that you like to sit won't harm the baby, though when I sit like this, I tend to feel my baby moving more - I think because the baby gets cramped and is trying to let me know that s/he doesn't like it.

Health officials in central Asia’s Kyrgyz Republic worry that the food crisis there is taking the heaviest toll on the country’s mothers and young children. In response, the government is using World Bank funding to expand a project where pregnant mothers are sure to get the basic vitamins they need.

I know that you aren’t suppose to have soft cheeses when you’re pregnant I usually can avoid them all together but what if i want to eat mexican food, queso blanco and queso fresco are 2 cheeses that they use in mexican food and those are 2 of the soft cheeses you’re not suppose to have….What do you think?

That warning is a load of crap. The reason to be careful of soft cheeses isn’t because of the fact that they are soft, or are cheeses…the issue is PASTURIZATION. Mozarella is a soft cheese, too–and no one avoids pizza, now, do hey?

Most soft cheeses sold commercially in the US ARE pasteurized.

Per the linked source:

Until recently, pregnant women were told to avoid soft cheese altogether during pregnancy. These days, the recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is to make sure any soft cheese you eat has a label clearly stating that it’s made from pasteurized milk.

Raw milk and any cheeses or other dairy products made from it can carry disease-causing organisms, including a potentially deadly bacterium called listeria monocytogenes. Although listeria infection is relatively rare (the CDC estimates that it affects 2,500 people in the U.S. every year and this number appears to be decreasing), pregnant women are about 20 times more likely than other healthy adults to get it, and the infection can be devastating or even lethal for their babies. Soft cheeses are thought to be particularly good hosts for listeria. ~~~~~~But the pasteurization process kills the bacteria and a whole host of other organisms.~~~~~~~

Cottage cheese, ricotta, cream cheese, processed cheeses (such as American) and hard cheeses (such as cheddar and parmesan), as well as cultured dairy products like yogurt and buttermilk, are generally considered to be safe. And ~~~~~~most dairy products made in the US are pasteurized anyway.~~~~~~~ But since there’s no guarantee, it’s best to check the label and make sure that any dairy product you consume during pregnancy is made with pasteurized milk.

—————————–

If you go to a restaurant, ASK the question….what kind of cheese is this? What brand? Is it pasteurized?

I’m sure most if not all of the chain restaurants use pasteurized cheeses.

i've been looking everywhere, but have only found does and dont's but i would like a rough daily guide to what i should be eating.

Try babyfit.com. You can go to the page that says "My Plan" and then something like "meal plan" and it will show you a good menu to keep up for the week. You can follow theirs or try your own. You can also add what foods you ate that day and they will tell you how much of every vitamin is included, and what your percentages are, as well as what they should be. It's pretty cool. They also have recipes that are good for pregnant women.
