i am 16 weeks pregnant n eating a balanced diet (that's what i think so) i would just like to know if you guys took any special care during your pregnancy—like the ways you sat,or suddenly stood up, sleeping position, jumping around etc…etc..

i have this habit of bending my legs (knees closed to my face)n sitting. will this harm my baby?

Yes I do.

I try not to sit for very long periods of time because it decreases your circulation and can make your legs ache and worsen varicose veins. I also try not to cross my legs for similar reasons.

By 16 weeks, you should be avoiding laying flat on your back for anything length of time, including trying not to sleep on it. When you lie flat on your back, your uterus presses on a major vein and cuts off blood flow to your lower half. Sleeping and laying on your left side is best.

As for standing up - be careful how suddenly you do this. There are two reasons. One is that you may feel a sharp pain at the sides of your uterus if you make sudden movements. This is round ligament pain and it's normal, but it hurts! (You can also get this pretty badly just from sneezing or coughing). The other reason is that standing up too quickly can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and lead you to feel very dizzy.

When you bend to get or lift something, bend at the knees/squat. This will save your back and help strengthen your legs for labor and birth.

The way that you like to sit won't harm the baby, though when I sit like this, I tend to feel my baby moving more - I think because the baby gets cramped and is trying to let me know that s/he doesn't like it.

i've been looking everywhere, but have only found does and dont's but i would like a rough daily guide to what i should be eating.

Try babyfit.com. You can go to the page that says "My Plan" and then something like "meal plan" and it will show you a good menu to keep up for the week. You can follow theirs or try your own. You can also add what foods you ate that day and they will tell you how much of every vitamin is included, and what your percentages are, as well as what they should be. It's pretty cool. They also have recipes that are good for pregnant women.

The introduction to a consumer DVD called Nutrition During Pregnancy. Bite Size Video’s intention is to educate women to follow a healthy diet (What is a healthy diet?), gain the appropriate amount of weight for a healthy pregnancy, and to ultimately encourage a lifestyle that will result in a healthy baby!

If you used it, how much weight did you gain? I used it strictly with my first pregnancy and I gained 55 pounds.
I was hungry when I was pregnant. I avoided soft drinks, sweets, fried foods, white flour, and desserts. I drank skim milk.

I didn't start with it in my first pregnancy until I was about 26 weeks along when I started my Bradley class. Because of nausea and vomiting I had already lost a lot of weight at that point so my gain over my pre-pregnancy weight was only 15lbs. I gained about 25lbs over my lowest weight though. My baby weighed 8lbs,2oz at 38+4 weeks.

My second pregnancy I started in the Brewer diet right away. My nausea wasn't as bad and I only lost a pound or two in the first trimester. My total weight gain was about 25lbs. My baby weighed 6lbs, 14oz at 38+3 weeks.

some of what happened to me in labor. Getting ready to leave for germany.

Though it is not conventional, my obstetrician put me on diabetic diet for this pregnancy. I am insulin resistent and overweight, and my doctor wants to prevent gestational diabetes. She said it is safe for me to lose weight for the entire pregnancy.

Has anyone experience with losing weight during pregnancy? How much did you lose? What did you eat? Thank you.

I can't personally answer your question, as it does not apply to me. However, my best friend went through this with her first baby. She was overweight (has since had gastric bypass…). I know she didn't gain ANY weight during her pregnancy and lost between 5-10 pounds, which doesn't seem like a lot but she was pregnant so it was the equivalent of losing 30-35 pounds. Anyway, I know she ate VERY healthy. No soda, no sugary juices, no pizza or anything like that. She ate a lot of greens (salads) and snacked on nuts and fresh fruit. I know for her, the soda thing was really hard. Hang in there, it will probably be really hard to maintain a diet during pregnancy. Good luck :)

I was about to start trying to lose weight when i found out i am pregnant. i am 20 lbs overweight. what kind of diet should i be on during pregnancy or just a regular pregnancy diet.
WE WERE TTC-BOTH 26YRS OLD
thanx. i already eat whole grains, onlymeat my 3 yr old likes in chicken, so that'sour mainsouirce of protein, i've been taking prenatal vitamins since b4 i found out. my problem is i'm craving junk ie- salty foods ( already have hbp)
i'm not tryiing to lose weight now……just want to knowhow i should eat. i feel hungry every hr(as much as ipee)

For an average weight woman it's recommended to gain 30 pounds. Even if you're overweight, they still recommend gaining at least 25 pounds. You DO need to gain weight. The baby-obviously, fluids, maternal blood, maternal fat stores, etc. Loosing weight is not an option until after the delivery.

Inherited Obesity

Posted on: 15, Dec

If you’re planning to have children and want to help them avoid getting fat, lose your own fat before you get pregnant. That’s the message from researchers who have found obesity during pregnancy can cause lifelong obesity in the next generations. As this ScienCentral News video explains, the good news is that researchers also found a dietary way to reverse this effect.
