My daughter has just had her first child and both the hospital midwife and the clinic midwife, whilst talking abount contraception, said that is is impossible for a woman to become pregnant for the first 3 weeks after childbirth, and leaflets she was given at the hospital also say the same. Does anyone know it this is a new discovery? If so I would like to find out why this is.
if the hospital says this then im sure its been researched and its not a new discovery..
but i always thought you could concieve straight after child birth, but it seems as though i am wrong.. but saying that it isnt impossible to concieve straight away because everyone is different

I thought you were able to conceive like a week after? I know some women who go back after 6 weeks checkup and they are one or two months pregnant again

You won't believe this. I am apart of 5 children in my family.
The first one was born in 1969, the second in 1970, the third 1971, the fourth 1973, the fifth 1974 and the last suppose to be born in 1975 just because he stayed in my mum tummy for 11months instead of 9.
P.S. all born in Africa! No benefit reason please.

I suppose it almost fits with a normal cycle and when you ovulate after birth it is around the same as after a period. My next door neighbour got pregnant within a month of giving birth. I am not sure why they say it is impossible before 3 weeks unless all women ovulate at exactly the same time…it is a bit silly. Not that I would recommend it ..your body needs time to recover!
I had 3 children within 4 years and that was close enough lol!!

i have two girls born exactly 12 months apart because i had sex as soon as i stopped bleeding after giving birth, you dont really want to have sex while you are bleeding. i have always been told you are most fertile after giving birth because your body is releasing 9 months of stored eggs! obvious really. She should use contraception unless she wants to have another baby right away…which i dont recommend.
